This is Keely’s second year participating in World Oceans Day, a cause she said is vital to the health of our oceans and our seafood. “That’s where we get our food from. If we take care of the ocean, it’s going to give us healthy protein that we can sustain ourselves on,” she said. Experts estimate around 8 to 12 million tons of plastic enter our oceans year after year. Pacific Bio - Warrenton and Pacific Fabrication walked up and down the shore at Fort Stevens' Beach, picking up mostly plastic bottles. “There’s all kinds of stuff out here, but the most is plastic,” said Pacific Bio Production Lead, Douglas Swallows, who believes the health of oceans should be everyone’s concern.

“You can’t point this at any one person, I think it takes all of us to come together. This is all about what we leave for our kids and their kids.” Douglas Swallows Pacific Bio Production Lead

Chef Gregory Gourdet's dish, featuring wild Alaska Halibut from Pacific Seafood

“Kann reached out to Nate and asked if Pacific Seafood would like to advise and participate in Chef Gregory’s featured menu for the James Beard Leadership Award luncheon. We decided that MSC-certified Alaska Halibut would be the star of the show.” In the span of just a few days, the entire Clackamas Team worked together to ensure “diamond” quality halibut was expertly processed and filleted before shipping directly to Chicago.

Pacific Seafood received an incredible opportunity to showcase one of our many certified sustainable species at one of the most prestigious award ceremonies in the country. In June, Pacific Seafood’s Alaska Halibut was served at the James Beard Leadership Awards luncheon, in Chicago. The awards ceremony recognizes leaders in the culinary and food media industries, and those in the broader food systems. Pacific Seafood’s Clackamas customer, Kann, was asked to cater this year’s luncheon, featuring sustainable seafood. Kann is owned and operated by the infamous Chef Gregory Gourdet, a former finalist on the Bravo network hit show, Top Chef. “The James Beard Awards are the “Oscars” for the culinary community. It was an exciting opportunity to highlight our partnership and sustainable seafood to a national audience,” said Foodservice Sales Manager, Erin Klein, who was a pivotal part of supplying the halibut for the luncheon, as well as Sales Representative, Nate Croslin. PACIFIC SEAFOOD FEATURED AT THE JAMES BEARD AWARDS

“I’m proud of our team and the beautiful, sustainable fish we are able to provide. There is no greater joy than seeing our product from the moment it was caught to the end of the supply chain, presented in such a gorgeous dish by an amazing Chef partner and award-winning team.” Erin Klein Foodservice Sales Manager

84 25,000 TRUCKLOADS MILES TRAVELED

Pacific Seafood’s South Bend Team is celebrating a cross-country accomplishment. In collaboration with two Maryland seafood companies, the team contributed millions of Pacific oyster shells to the Chesapeake Bay to replenish the public oyster fishery. Since the beginning of the year, Madison Bay Seafood, Wittman Wharf Seafood, and Pacific Seafood collaborated to transport an abundance of Pacific oyster shells from the West Coast to Maryland. Due to years of harvesting and exporting Chesapeake Bay oysters, the public oyster fishery is experiencing a shortage of shells needed to reproduce and grow new oysters within the bay. “We recycle our shell, but Madison Bay Seafood mentioned they were challenged with having enough in their estuary,” said South Bend Plant Manager, Jenn Allison. After offering to contribute their shell supplies to replenish the bay, Madison Bay Seafood jumped at the chance to haul the shell. A total of 84 truckloads, each 53 feet long, traveled nearly 25,000 miles from Pacific Seafood's processing location in South Bend, Washington, to the restoration site in Toddville, Maryland. “There are so many families up and down the Eastern Shore that rely on oysters for their income,” said Wittman Wharf Seafood Owner, Nick Hargrove. “These are people in my community, my friends, my family. Ensuring they have something to work on for years to come is vital.” Thanks to this cross-country collaboration, over the next 18 months, the Pacific oyster shell will spawn and grow new oysters to repopulate the bay. PROJECT MOBI

WHOLE FOODS SUPPLIER OF THE YEAR

Update The MOBI Team is working on new developments in SAP to launch a pilot program at the Pacific Seafood Clackamas warehouse. New functionality within SAP will launch very soon. Working closely with a small group of distribution Team Members and consignment inventory only, instructor-led training has been delivered to allow Team Members to participate in User Acceptance Testing sessions. These training sessions are critical during our readiness phase to determine how effective training has been, as well as making sure the system has been built to handle the day-to-day operations of the business. Training and production support continues for locations already live with SAP as they introduce new species to the system; shrimp at Westport and whiting at Warrenton. An element of that support includes using Power BI and its data visualization ability as a tool for the business and sites to get a realistic understanding and current status of inventory, production, and sales. Looking Ahead The MOBI Team has physically integrated into the operational divisions of the business. This will allow closer partnership between the builders and users of the new ERP system. While everyone settles in, the important work of building, training and supporting users of the system continues without pause. During this transition period, cross-functional trainings will take place to enhance collaboration, improve understanding of different roles and responsibilities, and facilitate better teamwork and communication.

This April, Pacific Seafood was recognized as a Whole Foods All-Star Supplier! PACIFIC SEAFOOD IN D.C. Pacific Seafood’s Political Action Committee was represented in Washington D.C. at the 2024 Capitol Hill Oceans Week (CHOW), this quarter! The Government Affairs Team traveled to D.C. to support the national coalition, Seafood Harvesters of America at their annual Fish Fry, aimed to showcase the seafood industry to lawmakers. Pacific Seafood’s Dungeness crab was a standout hit, drawing a long line of people eager to try! While in D.C., the team met with seven congressional offices to discuss and advocate for changing the market name of Pacific rockfish to be sold as Pacific snapper. Outside of the West Coast, rockfish lacks the recognizability of snapper. With your PAC support, the Government Affairs Team is hopeful that lawmakers will help implement this market name change to expand opportunities for our Sales Team. While in D.C. the Government Affairs Team met with Rep. Val Hoyle, who represents Newport, Charleston, Coos Bay, and Brookings, Oregon. She and her team prepared a delicious seafood paella! Many of these initiatives and actions wouldn't be possible without our PAC members.
